'Legally Blonde' Tour Home

Legally BlondeWestfield's Coleen Sexton follows 'Legally Blonde' tour home

Coleen Sexton has a much more arduous task in the tour of “Legally Blonde: The Musical” — she has to jump rope and sing at the same time.

Starting tonight, Sexton will show her home staters how that’s done when the touring company of the hit Broadway show plays a week at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.

“I’m Brooke Windham, an exercise guru,” says Sexton, a Westfield native. “Unfortunately, Brooke is also accused of murdering her much older husband — which is where law student Elle Woods comes in to defend her.

Sexton did the standard amount of jump-roping with her school chums at McKinley Elementary School. But by the time she reached Edison Intermediate School, she was already performing. Her first show was a revue a teacher concocted, called ‘Playing the Palace.’ ”

And while Sexton hasn’t yet played the Palace Theater on the Great White Way — where “Legally Blonde” enjoyed an 18-month run in 2006-07 — she did play the female lead on Broadway in “Jekyll & Hyde,” at the nearby Plymouth Theatre.

It’s one reason why Sexton didn’t attend college after graduating from Westfield High School in 1997; the offers just kept coming. The good news was that she was offered a role in a touring company.

“Mom was concerned about my schooling. Despite cutting an album in Germany — “and even being noticed in supermarkets over there,” she reports — Sexton gravitates to musical theater.

Those stints include “Wicked,” in which she’s played the green witch Elphaba more than 100 times, and both “Go-to-Hell Kitty” and Mama Morton in “Chicago.” Sexton will experience one minor heartbreak while she’s in Newark.

Alas, the Yankees will be at home for the first part of “Legally Blonde’s NJPAC stint — but will play at times when Sexton must be onstage.

To help them spread the word, Matt Kenseth’s car at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with have the name and the logo of the Sweet Tea Vodka on the hood of his No.17 racing car. cause nothing says good american values than fast cars and flavored vodka.

Wanting to honor the people who have served in our military, Jeremiah Weed wants to get them drunk. again – not such a bad idea. of course they throwin that “Oh, yeah, please drink responsibly, OK?” tagline, so you know that Jeremiah Weed cares about… you!

Ganassi return to Indy

Ganassi return to IndyA year after Ganassi driver Juan Pablo Montoya's dominating victory at Indy, Ganassi Racing was back along with Team Penske, which finished 1-2 with Helio Castroneves and Gil de Ferran.

As more teams followed, CART slid into bankruptcy. It slogged on for a few more years as the Champ Car World Series and finally, in 2008, the split ended when the remnants of Champ Car were absorbed into the IRL.

Of the original IRL team owners, only A.J. Foyt remains. Today's lineup is stacked with familiar names from the CART era, including Bobby Rahal, whose Rahal Letterman Racing team is struggling to find sponsorship but has the owner's son, Graham, starting seventh in the 500.

UFC 114 : Fight Results

While Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson headlined UFC 114, the results show it wasn't the best fight of the night.

Todd Duffee vs Mike Russow - Mike Russow took it into the third round, looking like a man fighting to hold off an inevitable defeat. While both Russow and Duffee were sitting at 253lbs, Duffee was lean and cut, while Russow looked overweight and out of shape. Russow spent the whole fight backpedaling and panting his way through, acting as if his loss was only a matter of time. Then, with a little over two minutes left in the match, he landed a right that started Duffee on the way down, and a followup shot sealed the deal. The third shot, a little smack on the motionless face of Duffee was just for good measure. Duffee's departure fromt he fight was very different from the way he left his last fight, his first UFC match which he won in a record 7 seconds, scoring a knockout blow against Tim Hague.

Michael Bisping vs Dan Miller - This was another slow fight that went the distance. Michael Bisping eventually won by unanimous decision.

Antonio Nogueira vs Jason Brilz - The old addage "Never leave the decision in the hands of the judges." applies here. Nogueira won by a split decision against Jason Brilz, but everyone in attendance knew it was the wrong decision. After the decision was announced, the crowd erupted into chants of "Bull****! Bull****!" as it was evident that Brilz had completely dominated the first two rounds, but had lost the third round. Any idiot could tell you 2 > 1, but the judges appeared to have failed basic math. Regardless, Nogueira came away with the tainted win, and Jason Brilz gained a whole new crew of fans who watched him get robbed.

John Hathaway vs Diego Sanchez - The first fight of the Pay-Per-View segment was the first boring fight we got to watch while paying (There were a couple others in the preliminaries that were on Versus, but Hathaway-Sanchez was the first one we had to pay to see.) Hathaway did land some really nice shots, including a vicious knee to the head in the first round which would have taken most fighters out, but Diego Sanchez held in there and managed to make it to the final bell, before losing in a unanimous decision.

Melvin Guillard vs Waylon Lowe - Guillard was quick off the bell, and managed to KO Lowe in the first round.

Dong Hyun Kim vs Amir Sadollah - Kim by unanimous decision.

Efrain Escudero vs Dan Lauzon - Escudero by unanimous decision.

Cyrille Diabate vs Luiz Cane - Diabete by TKO in the first round.

Aaron Riley vs Joe Brammer - Riley by unanimous decision.

Ryan Jensen vs Jesse Forbes - Jensen submitted Forbes in the first round.

Aid Ships Set Out To Defy Gaza Blockade

Aid Ships Set Out To Defy Gaza BlockadeA convoy of ships containing pro-Palestinian activists and aid destined for the blockaded Gaza Strip on Sunday steamed south from Cyprus towards Israeli naval vessels determined to stop them.
The five ships, carrying more than 700 passengers, are on the last leg of a high-profile mission to deliver tonnes of aid to Gaza, which has been subjected to a crippling Israeli blockade since 2007.
In Gaza City, dozens of Palestinian fishing boats were preparing to set sail to meet the flotilla, which is carrying hundreds of civilians and a handful of European MPs as well as dozens of Muslim activists.
The flotilla of cargo and passenger ships, which is carrying 10,000 tonnes of aid for Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, had been due to reach Gaza on Saturday.
Israel has slammed as "illegal" the convoy's attempt to break its blockade on Gaza, and has naval forces at the ready to intercept the ships and detain the pro-Palestinian activists on board.
To date, the amount of aid has been largely symbolic but organisers say this convoy is laden with 10,000 tonnes, ranging from pre-fabricated homes to pencils.

BBC Reports on Gaza

BBC Reports on Gaza, Gaza FreedomWhether or not the boats of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla arrive safely in Gaza, they will have at least achieved the difficult feat of catching the attention of the mainstream press, something which every activist action for Gaza should be aimed at. Jon Donnison of the BBC reported on the boats yesterday and followed up with another report today.
Is Donnison’s reporting perfect? The answer is no, but he is operating within an extremely confined power structure and he and other mainstream reporters and outlets need evidence that viewers want increased, accurate reporting on Gaza and elsewhere in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Gaza is recognized as the world’s largest “open-air prison” and this flotilla can’t change the situation for the long term, but what it can do is wake up the world to the point of asking why activists from around the world continue to face-off with one of the world’s top most brutal armies when others like them have lost their lives while doing so.
